If you are interested in tracking your NSFAS application or are unsure what your application status means, here’s how to check your application status and what the results might mean for you.
If you are waiting to hear from NSFAS on whether or not you are funded, you can track your application on the myNSFAS student portal.
How to track the status of your application:
Login to the myNSFAS portal here
Enter your username and password and log in
Click on Follow the progress of financing
Once there, you can receive a series of results. Here’s what you might receive and what they mean:
Application Submitted – Your application has been successfully uploaded to the NSFAS system.
Filtering: the system checks if you are a returning student and if you have previous grades.
Validation: NSFAS performs third party verifications with SASSA and the Ministry of the Interior.
Assessment: NSFAS verifies all the documents you submitted during your application.
Financing Eligibility: NSFAS verifies the financial status of your home that has been declared on your application.
Waiting for Academic / Admission Results: NSFAS checks your academic results and the admission status of your institution to make sure you qualify to be funded by NSFAS. Many stay in this scenario for a time. This is because NSFAS has to wait for the information from the chosen institution.
Awaiting Registration: NSFAS receives data from your institution to allow them to create a scholarship agreement. This is another stage that students find themselves in for a while. This is because NSFAS has to wait for the information from the chosen institution.
Agreement signing: At this point, you need to sign your scholarship agreement so that NSFAS can disburse your stipends.
Payments – Your allowances are now paid through the NSFAS mobile wallet system or through your institution. Students are encouraged to continue monitoring the myNSFAS portal for updates.
